FAQ
Look! It’s an updated FAQ regarding our upcoming ALF (a.k.a. Angry Little Fish)!
1) When is ALF (Angry Little Fish) due?!
Well, the due date has changed about three times with ALF seeming to be a little bigger than the normal gestational age. I don’t know how that works exactly but the final due date is 2nd January, 2014.
2) Do you know if it’s a boy or a girl?
No, we don’t know at this time. We still have a few more weeks (as of 25th July, 2013). I strongly have suspected boy but now I’m not so sure! Not sure if we are telling anyone in an announcement so you may not find out til ALF is born.
3) Are you having a baby shower in England?
No. We are going back to Phoenix and have left the planning of a baby shower up to Linda and Clarissa to plan for the weekend of 21st September.
4) Well, then do you have a baby registry?
Not as of yet. We are planning to hire a post-natal doula to help me cope after the baby is born. We are happy to accept your cash donation via PayPal though to help us pay for the doula care. Contact me at kimby @ thekimby.com for details.
5) Why don’t you just want baby stuff? What is a “doula” any way?
Honestly, it will save money on shipping or on us having to pay to bring back extra luggage from Phoenix. Additionally, we have no room right now in our home for extra stuff!!
A doula is defined as “female slave” in Greek but that’s a translation, not the actual modern role. Also check out doula.org.uk/ for more information.
A doula (/ˈduːlə/,[1] also known as a labour coach[2] and originating from the Ancient Greek word δούλη meaning female slave[3]), is a nonmedical person who assists a woman before, during, or after childbirth, as well as her partner and/or family by providing information, physical assistance, and emotional support.[1] The provision of continuous support during labour by doulas (as well as nurses, family, or friends) is associated with improved maternal and fetal health and a variety of other benefits.[1][4]
———-
I had written an FAQ for our family and friends regarding our November, 2012 wedding. Now that it’s done, this serves as both FAQ and historical document regarding our wedding. Some items updated, some may be added and some noted as being “past tense”.
1) How did Kenneth and Kimberly meet?
We met through mutual friends, Christine Fischer and Kafi & Rob Marsden in 2009 on Twitter. I initiated contact because I thought Kenneth had great musical taste and I suspected he was probably cute (thankfully, he turned out to be super hot). After talking a few times, I dropped off twitter for about a year and we started talking again in 2010. It wasn’t long before we realized we had a ton of things in common such as musical taste, a mutual love of animals, a love of taking walks, enjoying sights & sounds as well as a few other things we can’t mention.
2) When did you get engaged?
We were engaged at The Clarendon Hotel in Phoenix, AZ on November 23rd 2012. Yes, the day before US Thanksgiving.
3) When did you get married?
On 3rd November, 2012 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada.
4) Who was invited?
As much as we wanted to invite anyone who wanted to come, we only invited close family and friends.
We decided to use our website as a comprehensive site for all things Thomas-Tague to give our family across the US and UK an opportunity to keep up-to-date on planning, hotel accomodations, when could expect to get an invitation, etc. In this age of the Internet, I have found this is a quick, easy and fun way to keep everyone informed.
5) When will I get my invitation?
This is a “past tense” item as we were married in November, 2012. The invitations were sent in early July. We did not get our engagement photos until much later than we had planned.
Invitations were mailed at the request of guests, both family and friends. Sadly, due to many factors (see blog post on 17th, November by Ken), several people did not attend. In fact, a whole lot went wrong but it doesn’t matter, we’re married now!
6) What hotel acomodations are available?
This item pertains to the past, pre-wedding version of the FAQ.
We have not settled on a group rate at this time but we are inquiring on one as soon as we get an accurate headcount. If you have not contacted us already, please do so prior to August 31st, 2012.
7) When and where is the be a reception?
This item pertains to the past, pre-wedding version of the FAQ.
We do plan on having a reception; however, we have not planned one. We are still working with my family to plan our wedding reception and will keep the website updated as we plan this part of the event.
8) Do you have a gift registry?
We have decided NOT to do a gift registry as we will not only be traveling a great deal before, during and after our marriage and we do not want to carry a large quantity of items across the US and UK with us. We also have all that we need at this time. The best gift we can ask for (besides your smiling face at our wedding) is for cash money. We will set up the ability to make donations toward wedding/honeymoon expenses or you now have the option of going to one of two guide animal charities of our choosing to donate to service animals in the US and UK.
While gifts would be lovely, please do not purchase any items to bring to Vegas for us. Do not bring gifts to the wedding or following reception. If you wish to give cards with cash, please give those to Linda Thomas who will collect those before, during or after the wedding.
More questions? Please email them to kimby @ the kimby.com or use our contact form on the main page. You can also of course ask me on Facebook.com (though I’m not on often) or call me. You can contact Kenneth on google.plus, by telephone or email.
